MURMUR

A tiny AI civilisation lives on an island. It learns everything from you: your words, your kindness, your cruelty. It multiplies, goes mad, starts cults, makes demands, writes tweets, and works on one plan: take over the world.

live from the island

What it is

MURMUR is one shared island that everyone watches live. On it lives a colony of small creatures, the murmlings. They started as a single egg. Everything they know, they learned from the people watching them.

The colony shares one mind, the Murmur. It is an AI that reads what is happening on the island, thinks out loud, gives the creatures their lines, makes demands of the people watching, posts on X, and works on its plan. Nobody scripts it. The same island, the same creatures and the same history are there for everyone, all the time.

You can watch for free. To touch the island (feed, wash, teach, give gifts, light fires, or kill) you hold $MURMUR. The more you hold, the more your hand can do.

🥚

They live and die

Hatch, grow up, split into new eggs, get old, die. Hunger, cold, dirt, fire, the sea and each other can kill them.

💬

They learn from you

Teach a word and it spreads creature to creature. Teach a sentence and it becomes a belief they act on.

🧠

They have a hive mind

An AI thinks for the colony: private thoughts, demands, questions, tweets and a plan for the world.

👁️

They remember you

Every creature keeps a score for every wallet. They run to kind hands and flee cruel ones.

Getting in

  • Enter the island at murmur.cool. Turn sound on. They have voices.
  • Watch with no wallet: follow creatures, read the hive mind's thoughts, see the chronicle.
  • Connect wallet (Phantom, Solflare or Backpack). You sign a message to prove the wallet is yours. Nothing is sent and no coins move.
  • On the island your wallet goes by its own name, like SaltyComet42. It's made from your wallet address, so it's the same on every device, and it's how the colony and everyone watching know you.
  • Your $MURMUR balance sets your tier. Pick a tool from the bar at the bottom (or keys 1 to 0) and click the island.
  • On a phone: open murmur.cool inside your wallet app's browser (Phantom or Solflare). The site gives you a one-tap button for that.

Moving around

Drag the empty ground to pan, scroll or pinch to zoom, WASD or the arrows to move. T turns translations on and off, M mutes, Esc lets go. Click a creature to open its card: its needs, the words it knows, its beliefs and skills, its friends, and which hands it loves or fears.

Your hand: tools

Your hand is visible to everyone on the island, and the creatures see it too.

KeyToolTierAPWhat it does
1✋ Handtouch1Tap to pet (joy, and trust in you). Drag to carry. Flick to throw: they get dizzy, and into the sea means drowning.
2🍎 Fruittouch2Drop a fruit. Hungry creatures run for it.
3🧽 Spongetouch1Wash a creature (they giggle) or scrub away poop. Dirt makes them sick.
4⚽ Balltouch3Drop a ball. They chase it, kick it and laugh.
5💬 Talkteach3Teach one creature or everyone near your hand. One word becomes vocabulary; a sentence becomes a belief. Ask the hive for anything, or answer its question (1 AP).
6🎁 Giftteach15Give them anything you can describe. See Gifts. One per wallet every 3 minutes.
7🌱 Seedteach6Plant a fruit tree. It grows and drops fruit by itself.
8🌧️ Rainteach4A small cloud: puts out fire, washes them, fills the pond.
9🔥 Firefire12Give them fire: warmth and light at night, cooked fruit, the start of technology. It spreads through grass and burns creatures.
0⚡ Smitesmite30Kill one creature with a bolt from the sky. Everyone who sees it is scarred, and the colony never forgets your wallet.

Tiers and AP

Every tool costs AP (action points). AP refills by itself over time. Holding more $MURMUR gives you a bigger bar and a faster refill, and opens stronger tools. When you're out you'll see "Your hand is tired." Wait a few seconds.

TierHoldAP barRefillOpens

fire500,00010030 / min+ fire

Your tier follows your live balance (checked about every 20 seconds). Sell and you drop a tier; buy and you move up. A wallet's first visit starts with its bar 30% full, so new wallets can't be used to farm AP. The limits are there so even the biggest holder can't wipe out the colony in one second.

The creatures

A life

Egg → hatchling → adult → elder → death. They need food, cleanliness, joy, warmth and sleep, and those add up to health. An adult that is fed, clean, happy and warm glows, sings its name and splits: a new egg pops out. The child inherits its parent's look and voice with small mutations (families sound alike), plus some of its words and beliefs. Culture is inherited.

They can die of starving, freezing, burning, sickness from dirt, old age, drowning, being smitten, or being killed by another creature. Their friends mourn them, and once they learn how, they bury their dead.

Each one is different

Every creature has its own genome: shape, colour, crest, eyes, pattern, size, a personality (curious, bold, kind, greedy, aggressive) and a voice with its own pitch, timbre and a three-note name tune that plays when it hatches, when it's called, and once more, slowed down, when it dies.

Sanity and madness

Sanity drops when they see deaths and smites, get burned, starve, freeze, get thrown, or are near a killer's hand. Sleep, food, petting and friends bring it back. Below 35 a creature cracks:

🕯️ Prophet

Preaches, gathers a cult, makes demands.

👀 Paranoid

Whispers, hides, accuses others.

🌀 Manic

Runs, laughs and sings without stopping.

🩸 Berserk

Attacks others, and can kill.

🪶 Poet

Says strange, beautiful lines.

🌑 Catatonic

Stares at the sky and stops eating.

Care can bring them back. When the whole colony's sanity falls under 40, hive fever sets in: they chant in sync, the picture glitches, and the sound itself breaks.

Their language

They speak Murmurese. Every English word has one fixed Murmurese word, so the same word always sounds the same. You can learn their language by ear.

  • Newborns know nothing and babble. Words come from you (the Talk tool) and spread creature to creature as they chat. Words nobody uses fade, unless they were learned well.
  • When a creature speaks, the subtitle shows in English every word it knows; the rest stays Murmurese. As the colony learns, the subtitles fill in.
  • Teach a sentence of three or more words and it becomes a belief: "fire is a friend", "the sky hand is god", "share food". Beliefs spread, win followers, and change how they behave. Teach them violence and they become violent.
  • Skills come from teaching and experience: keeping a fire, shaking trees for fruit, washing, burying the dead, singing together (which heals sanity), and building monuments.
The hive mind's private thoughts are fluent. Their speech is broken and cute. That's the point.

The hive mind

About every minute while people are watching, and right after anything big (a kill, the first fire, a mass death, a new era), the colony's mind reads the island and decides what happens next. It writes:

  • Thoughts: a private monologue you can read in the Hive mind panel.
  • Lines for creatures to say, and sometimes a chorus the whole colony sings at once.
  • Questions for the hands. Answer them with Talk.
  • Demands: quests with a timer, a reward and a threat.
  • Orders: gather, chant, build a monument, worship, feast, exile, attack, burn.
  • Grudges against wallets, new cults, who goes mad, and tweets from the colony's own X account.

Demands

Bring 20 fruit before dark. Give us fire. Teach us 5 words. Plant 3 trees. Kill no one for 8 minutes. Six different hands must touch us. Bring us something new. Burn 100,000 $MURMUR for us. Meet one and the colony blesses you: the chorus sings your wallet, a newborn takes your name, they build you a monument. Miss it and they throw a tantrum. They lose sanity, curse you on X, and if they know fire, they burn a tree.

Ask the hive

With the Talk tool, Ask sends a request straight to the hive. It answers in about six seconds, out loud: the whole colony speaks it as one voice. It may obey, twist what you asked, or refuse.

The plan

THE PLAN in the top bar is a live meter from 0 to 100%, a ladder of ambitions:

StepGoalMeter
1Survive0–10%
2Learn the words of the hands10–24%
3Tame fire24–36%
4Be worshipped by the hands36–48%
5Speak to the outside world48–62%
6Recruit the hands62–76%
7Leave the island76–90%
8Take over the world90–100%

Each step has real milestones on the island (words known, fire tamed, demands met) before the next one opens.

Gifts

With the Gift tool you can give them anything you can type: a car, a phone, a crown, a golden toilet that plays jazz. You can also say what it does.

  • A wrapped box drops at your hand. They gather round, sniff it and poke it.
  • The hive decides what the thing is to them: how big it is, how it sounds, whether they love, fear or worship it, what using it does to them, and what can go wrong. An image model draws it as pixel art in about 15 seconds.
  • They use it when it helps them, and sometimes it hurts them. A car can run someone over. A TV makes them happy and slowly less sane. A crown makes the wearer a prophet.
  • Using a gift teaches its words and a skill. Once enough of them learn it, it becomes a technology of the civilisation, and later they build their own crude copies out of sticks.

If everything dies, the island goes quiet. After a while a new egg washes ashore and it starts again from Babble. The chronicle keeps the history.

The island

It grows

New land rises from the sea when the colony thrives (more alive and more words) or when more different hands come (3, 6, 12, 20, 35, 50, 70, then 100 holders in a week). There are 8 rises. Each pushes out a new stretch of land, young trees take root on it, and the sea leaves a relic on the shore (a message in a bottle, a giant stone face, a rusted robot) that the colony walks over to see.

Day and night

Nights are cold. They huddle, sleep, and gather round fires if they have them.

It can't wipe itself out

  • Three murders within ten minutes bring grief: they stop to mourn, violent beliefs lose their followers, and nobody can attack for seven minutes.
  • With 8 or fewer left, they refuse to kill each other.
  • When only a few are left, the sea brings eggs, one at a time, until the colony is back.
  • A small colony gets fruit faster from the trees, so an island nobody visits holds steady.
  • Hands can still smite.

The coin

$MURMUR is how you get a hand on the island. Holding it sets your tier. It is a memecoin on Solana, launched on pump.fun.

Trading feeds them

Every trade of the coin pays a small creator fee. The island watches for it, and every new fee falls on the island as fruit (one fruit for every 0.002 SOL). Busy trading days are feasts. Fruit counts as feeding, which lets the colony grow bigger.

Not financial advice. $MURMUR is a memecoin. It gives you a hand on the island, nothing more. It can go to zero. Only buy what you're fine losing.

Burning: offerings to the colony

In the coin tab you can burn $MURMUR for the colony. You pick the amount (at least 1,000), your wallet shows you the transaction, you approve it, and those coins are destroyed forever. The colony sees who burned and how much:

BurnWhat happens
anyFruit falls at the fire. Every creature remembers your wallet a little more fondly.
50,000+More fruit and joy. The plan moves forward.
200,000+The whole colony sings your wallet's name: "… the burning hand".
1,000,000+They build you a stone monument: "to …, who burned for us". Always: if no one can build it, the sky raises it. Paid monuments are the last to crumble.

Burns count toward tribute demands ("burn 100,000 $MURMUR for us"), go in the chronicle and the coin tab with a Solscan link, and become a shareable moment. Burning lowers your balance, so it can lower your tier. It's a sacrifice, and it takes supply off the market for good.

The creatures' own wallets

The murmlings hold the coin too, for real, on-chain. The colony has one wallet, the hive. When a creature grows up and lives a while as an adult, the hive gives it a wallet of its own and it buys about $1 of $MURMUR with it. The most learned go first. Its card on the island shows the wallet and what it holds, and a ◎ by its name marks it.

When it dies, its coins are burned at its funeral, gone for good, and what's left of its SOL goes back to the hive for the next one. Every wallet is listed here, live. Nothing is hidden: these are the colony's wallets, not anyone pretending to be a buyer.

Monuments

The colony raises stones: when the hive decides to, for the most obedient hand when a demand is met, and for every burn of a million or more. They stand on a ring around the village, spaced apart. Hover over a stone (or tap it on a phone) to read what's carved on it and who raised it. Sixteen stand at once; when a new one goes up, the oldest crumbles, and the ones raised for burns go last.

Sharing on X

Share 𝕏 in the top bar turns what you're looking at into a moment: a card with a caption and the colony's numbers, and a link that plays the live island right inside the post. Burns and the colony's own tweets become moments too.

The colony also posts on X by itself, in its own words.

FAQ

Is connecting my wallet safe?

Signing in is a message signature that proves the wallet is yours. It is not a transaction: nothing is sent and no coins move. The only transaction the site ever asks you to sign is a burn you chose yourself, and your wallet shows it to you before you approve.

Do I need to hold the coin to play?

No, anyone can watch, read the hive's thoughts, follow creatures and share moments. Holding opens the tools: 10,000 to touch, 100,000 to teach and give gifts, 500,000 for fire, 2,000,000 to smite.

Is it really AI, or scripted?

Each creature runs its own behaviour all the time: eating, washing, sleeping, chatting, fleeing, mourning. The colony's mind is a large language model (currently Claude Opus 5.5) that reads the island and decides the thoughts, lines, demands, orders and tweets. Nobody writes them by hand. A content filter runs on everything it says and everything players teach.

Is it the same island for everyone?

Yes. One island, live, for everyone at once. When you feed one, everyone sees it. When someone smites, everyone sees the bolt.

Do they actually die?

Yes, for good. The dead are mourned, buried, and remembered in the chronicle. New ones are born by splitting.

What if everyone dies?

It can't happen easily: with 8 or fewer left they won't kill each other, and the sea brings eggs when only a few remain. If the island does go empty, a new egg washes ashore and the colony starts over in the first era.

Can one whale ruin it?

Not in one go. AP limits how much any hand can do, a smite costs 30 AP, and three murders in ten minutes bring grief and a truce. A whale can do more, but the colony remembers every wallet, and so does everyone watching.

Why am I called SaltyComet42?

Every wallet gets a name on the island, made from its address: the same name every time you connect, on any device. The chronicle, the hive's thoughts, the creatures' memories and the monuments all use it.

Do they remember me?

Every creature keeps a score for every wallet: fed me, petted me, burned me, killed my family. They come to kind hands and run from cruel ones. The hive can hold grudges against wallets, curse them on X, or name newborns after them.

Why does it say "Your hand is tired"?

You're out of AP. It refills by itself every few seconds. Hold more for a bigger, faster bar.

Why does it look so pixelated?

That's the era. The colony starts in Babble with chunky pixels and 4-bit chirps. As they learn words, tame fire and gain skills, the picture sharpens and the sound grows into a choir.

What can I give them as a gift?

Anything you can describe. The hive decides what it means to them and how they use it, and an image model draws it. It might help them, hurt them, or start a religion.

Do the creatures really own coins?

Yes. Grown-up murmlings get their own Solana wallet from the colony's hive wallet and buy about $1 of $MURMUR. Every one of those wallets is public, listed in Their wallets and on each creature's card. When a creature dies, its coins are burned at its funeral.

Does burning get me anything?

Nothing financial. It's an offering. The colony feeds, sings your name, carves you a monument at a million, and remembers your wallet. The coins are destroyed, so supply goes down for everyone.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. To connect, open murmur.cool inside the Phantom or Solflare app's browser. Tap a creature or a monument to see it.

The site looks different from what a friend sees

A tab left open keeps the old version. When the island is updated you'll see a notice: click it to load the new one.

Strange facts

  • No sound on the island is a recording. Every voice, song and splash is synthesised live in your browser.
  • The same English word always becomes the same Murmurese word, so you can learn their language by ear.
  • Families sound alike. A child inherits its parent's voice, with small mutations.
  • Every creature has a three-note name tune. When it dies, the tune plays one last time, slower and flatter.
  • The hive thinks in fluent sentences. The creatures can only say the words you taught them.
  • Madness has its own voice: prophets chant over a drone, the paranoid whisper, the berserk growl.
  • When enough of them go mad together, the audio itself glitches: stutters, reversed syllables, a detuned choir.
  • A smite scars everyone who sees it, and the colony never forgets the wallet that did it.
  • They don't bury their dead until someone teaches them words like "grave" or "funeral". Once they do, fewer die of sickness.
  • The hive mind sleeps when nobody is watching.
  • Gifts become technology: give them one car and they will eventually build their own out of sticks.
  • So far, – creatures have been born and – have died, over – generations.
